Training in first aid

Ludhiana: The executive council of Youth Red Cross unit of the Government College for Girls (GCG) organised a seminar on “Importance, need and methods of first-aid” as part of the training of in first aid students under the guidance of Satveer Pandher, Youth Red Cross society in-charge and Associate Professor in physics, GCG. The resource person was Prof Ashish Ahuja, eminent  laparoscopic surgeon and pioneer in revisional bariatric surgery at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. A floral tribute was given to Henry Duanet, founder of Red Cross movement, to commence the programme, followed by the Red Cross pledge administered by principal Manju Sahni. 

Lecture series in chemistry

The postgraduate department of the Government College of Science Education and Research, Jagraon, organised a lecture series in chemistry under the guidance of Prof Gurcharan Singh, college director. The lectures were delivered by resource persons from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali. Sanjay Mandal, senior professor in chemistry, delivered a lecture on X-ray crystallography, single crystal, powdered diffraction and its applications in the structure determination. Ujjal K Gautam talked about transmission electron microscopy and techniques related to it for structure determination. Sugumar Venkataramani told students about IR spectroscopy, its principles, theory , instrumentation and applications on IR. Mehar Singh Sidhu informed students about ultrafast laser and its role in spectroscopy.

Freshers’ party for dental students

Desh Bhagat University organised a freshers’ party, Aagaaz 2019. The event was inaugurated by Chancellor Zora Singh. He congratulated the students for joining this noble profession and encouraged them to serve the mankind with honesty and empathy. Vice-Chancellor Virinder Singh and pro-chancellor Tajinder Kaur wished students the best and said they had to work hard and be honest to their duties. This function was a fun-filled event, in which the freshers got an opportunity to interact with their seniors. Students presented a colourful cultural programme consisting of songs, various cultural dances, dances and skits. A ramp walk was also arranged. TNS
