Passengers remain at the receiving end with five trains being cancelled for the day, four others rescheduled for late departure and many long-route ones running behind schedule.
As a result of cancellation and late running of trains, minor fights with shoving, pushing and jostling between passengers to board the alternative trains have become a routine affair at the railway platforms here. The affected passengers hold the railway authorities responsible for the erratic run of the trains, saying the failure of the Railways to install adequate number of anti-fog devices on long-route trains brings misery to passengers during such weather conditions every year.
Railway officials said 12241/42 Amritsar-Chandigarh-Amritsar Intercity Express, 14674 Amritsar-Jaynagar Shaheed Express and 15209/10 Saharsa-Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express trains remained cancelled. Four trains – 12238 Jammu Tawi-Varanasi Begumpura Express (1.30 hrs), 12355 Rajendra Nagar-Jammu Tawi Archana Express (3.30 hrs), 13050 Amritsar-Howrah Express (2.20 hrs) and 22446 Amritsar-Kanpur Weekly Superfast Express (2.10 hrs) were rescheduled.
In addition, two morning trains on trunk route of New Delhi-Ludhiana-Amritsar (12029 Swarn Shatabdi Express and 12497 Shan-e-Punjab) were also delayed by half an hour to 45 minutes.
