Prachi Gaur and Pushwinder Kaur scored the perfect 100 per cent marks to become toppers in the sports category of the Class XII PSEB exams in the state. Students of BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, not only are they both classmates, but also close pals. They shared the same desk and helped each other in studies.

Having topped the Class X exams, scoring 100 per cent marks to top the Class XII exams was what she expected, said Pushwinder. She said despite being a topper, she chose humanities because that was what she always wanted to opt for.

But they would take separate paths after school as their aspirations are different. While Pushwinder would take a call on joining civil services and judicial services after completing her graduation, Prachi would pursue BCA and would like to work in the public sector with a government job. She would also give civil services exam a try, she said.

Speaking about her success mantra, Pushwinder said regular studies and hard work was the key. She devoted  around four hours to studies regularly. She loves music and even while studying, she listens to soft music, she said.

Pushwinder’s father, Sukhjinder Singh, who runs a tent business, and mother, Sapna, a housewife, were elated after the result. “My daughter has been working hard and we were expecting that she would do well and get a good position this time also,” he said.

Eldest of the four siblings, she has won a bronze medal at a state-level baseball tournament in the school games held last year.

While Pushwinder was expecting this result, Prachi not only surprised herself, but also her parents by scoring 100 per cent marks and becoming the topper in the sports category. “Though I was expecting a good result, I never thought I would be on top of the list,” said Prachi.

She had scored about 86 per cent marks in Class X exams. But the reason why she could not make it among the top-scorers then was she became unwell, says her father, Dhananjay Gaur, a construction supervisor at a company. Dhaneshwari, her mother, said her daughter was fulfilling her dream, as she could not study after school.

Prachi won gold medal in baseball at a state-level school games. Her brother is pursuing BTech.  She says she devoted maximum time to studies. Rather than focusing later, devoting time regularly to studies is a must, she added.
