Three jailed for fake surety

Those sent behind bars are Madan Lal, Swaran Kaur of Janta Nagar and Shaminder Singh of Jagraon. They had furnished surety bonds to secure the release of a man from jail. OC 
 
Sarpanch of Jhammat beaten
Ludhiana: Five persons have been booked by the Sarabha Nagar police for thrashing the sarpanch of Jhammat village and others. The suspects have been identified as Harshvir Singh, Mandeep Singh, Nachatar Singh, Harnek Singh and Raji, all residents of the same village. Sarpanch Balvir Singh told the police that on Wednesday, the suspects were thrashing Gurvinder Singh of the same village over old enmity. When he intervened, the suspects also thrashed them. TNS
 
Illicit liquor confiscated
 
Ludhiana: The police have recovered 235 cases of illicit liquor from five smugglers in three separate cases. Three of the smugglers were nabbed while two managed to give a slip to the police. In the first case, the police recovered 210 cases of illicit liquor and booked three persons namely Sanjiv Kumar of Daba colony, Jaspreet Singh of Shimlapuri, and Gurmeet Singh of New Aman Nagar. IO ASI Kulwant Singh said a tip-off was received that some people had a huge stock of illicit liquor in a Bolero. The police conducted raid near Mata Tej Kaur Memorial, Daba. In another case, the Jamalpur police arrested a person and recovered 30 cases of illicit liquor from him. The accused has been identified as Sanju Singh Dhaliwal of Ashok Vihar, Jalandhar. IO ASI Jasvir Singh said a Bolero was stopped for checking at Jandiali cut, which led to the recovery of liquor.  In third case, the CIA wing held Ajay Kumar of Ekjot Nagar and recovered five cases of liquor from him.
