Three held with 1-kg heroin

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Ludhiana police arrested three drug smugglers and recovered 1-kg heroin from their possession on Saturday.

The trio has been identified as Parminder Singh alias Tidda and Baldev Singh alias Ravi of Machhiwara and Sukhjinderpal Singh of Julafgarh village.

Harbans Singh, STF incharge, said a tip-off was received that three persons were in the city to deliver drugs in an Innova car. They had brought the consignment from a Nigerian living in New Delhi. The police party laid a naka at Transport Nagar and intercepted a car.

During a search, heroin was recovered from the vehicle. Harbans said Tidda was already facing 19 cases of drug smuggling and other crimes and was undergoing 10 years’ imprisonment in a drug case. He had been released on bail about four months ago. Harbans said Tidda’s son, an undertrial in a drug smuggling case, was presently lodged in the Central Jail here.

Sukhjinderpal works on contract as a backup system assistant in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Baldev is a driver.
