Ludhiana, June 8
City-based swimmers bagged two gold, besides four silver and two bronze medals, on the opening day of the 43rd Junior Punjab Swimming and Water Polo Championship for Boys and Girls being held at Sports School Swimming Pool, Jalandhar, on Friday.
Sangrur’s Deepali Attri established a new meet record in the group-I 200-metre back stroke event by clocking 2:54.14 minutes.
Ludhiana district opened its account when Ekamjot Kaur took 6:25.95 minutes to win gold medal in the girls’ group-II 400 metre free style event. In the boys’ group-II, Akashdeep Singh of Ludhiana clinched gold medal in the 200 metre back stroke event with timing of 2:30.00 minutes.
Four silver medals for Ludhiana came through Kriti Arora (group-II) 200 metre back stroke; Sohal Singh Mahal (group-I) 400 metre free style; Ishan Pawar (group-II) 400 metre free style and Kriti Arora (group-II) 400 metre free style events.
Sargunjot Singh of Ludhiana annexed bronze medal in the 200 metre back stroke in boys’ group-II. Anshika Yadav of Ludhiana secured third position in the girls’ group-II in 200 metre back stroke.
Sushil Kumar Rinku, MLA from the Jalandhar (West) constituency declared the championship open.
