Survivors vie for women empowerment

“She- Ek Udaan” an event highlighting women empowerment and fight against cancer was held at the Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan.

Several activities inspiring women to step forward and lead a life with dignity were showcased on the occasion.

Eleven young women from slum areas walked the ramp and symbolised their transformation after studying at slum schools run by social worker Hari Om Jindal.

Anurag Chauhan, another social worker told about “Wash project” related to hygiene and sanitary pad.

Acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal hosted the show along with Ripu Daman Mahajan. Laxmi said women must show courage to defeat and overcome violence against them in society. She along with other survivors also walked the ramp.

Raman Goyal, president, Healthy Hands Club, spoke about cancer, its prevention and work that the NGO is doing to help cancer patients.

Prem Kaur (86), cancer survivor said one should never give up. “I feel extremely humbled with all the love and appreciation received from the audience,” she said.

“The society cannot progress unless women are on equal footing with men. Efforts must continue until it is achieved,” said Amarjit Kaur, CEO, RK Communication.

Performance of children from RK Fitness Studio and Dance Academy left the audience awestruck. Free liver disease and liver cancer screening assessment was also done.
