Students appearing in MA sociology, 3rd semester, exam (Family in cross cultural perspectives) conducted by Panjab University were left in a shock after finding two questions out of the syllabus.

Arshdeep Kaur, who appeared in the exam said, “Question number VI ‘Write a note on withering theory’ and Question no- VII ‘Write a note on reconstructing of family theory’ carrying 15 marks, are completely unheard of.”

“The thing is that when a student, who is already under pressure, comes across questions which they have not read, their attempting prowess gets affected. I kept on thinking about the loss of 15 marks and could not give my 100 per cent.”

Vicky Dutt, who also appeared for the exam said, “I had prepared really hard for the exam. However, all my hopes were dashed to the ground when I saw two questions out of the syallbus. Even, grace marks cannot match actual score I would have got.”

Head of Post-Graduate Department of Sociology of the GNN College, Doraha, Prof Nidhi Saroop said, “The paper setters failed to adhere to the current syllabus. It seems that they might have consulted syllabus of 2016-17 session instead of 2018-19 session. We fail to understand why these paper setters play with future of thousands of students. Such paper setters should be barred who do not bother to have a look at the syllabus twice.”

“As every single mark makes a difference, students were in for a great shock after finding two questions completely out of the syllabus,” she said.

Prof Manoj Kumar, Member Board of Studies in Sociology, when contacted said the matter would definitely be considered if they receive a representation from the colleges.
