Office-bearers of various social organisations and activists have vowed to associate with coordinated movement to make the state drug-free which was launched by the state government lead by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

The oath was taken in response to a call made by the Pakhowal SMO Dr Gurdip Singh after flagging-off a mobile van equipped for spreading awareness about causes and consequences of drug abuse and drug addiction. Identifying the drug abuse as breeding bowl for most of social evils, including domestic violence, crime against children, illiteracy and accidents, SMO Dr Gurdip Singh, said sensitisation of masses about causes and consequences of drug addiction would go a long way in establishing a healthy society. He said this would also prevent the youth from falling prey to sinister designs of drug mafia and antisocial elements.

The staff deployed on the mobile van equipped with electronic devices displayed slide shows and videos highlighting deleterious effects of various kinds of habit forming drugs and methodology to save the youth from tentacles of the drug addiction.

A large number of volunteers came forward to associate with the ensuing movement launched against the menace of drug addiction.
