The teachings of Guru Nanak Dev have been the guiding light for generations in the entire world. This was stated by Canadian Member of Parliament Sukh Dhaliwal during an international symposium at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru.

He said the Guru promoted ideas of brotherhood and equality which were still relevant in society.

While presiding over the seminar, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Gobind Singh Longowal said the SGPC will set up an NRI cell to ensure participation of maximum number of people during the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. He said the SGPC will also print literature citing Guru Sahib’s teachings in 13 languages. He exhorted everyone to come forward and contribute towards making the birth anniversary a grand event.

Noted Sikh scholar Anurag Singh said the Guru gave the teaching of sharing with everyone. He also promoted the ideas of removing differences in society. Sehajpal Singh, Principal of the college, thanked the SGPC president for choosing the institution for the function.

Students of the college presented a lecture on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev and his philosophy. Over 40 eminent personalities, including Air Marshal Raj Karan Singh Seehra, Punjab State Power Corporation chairman Baldev Singh Sra and PTU Vice Chancellor Ajay Sharma, were honoured at the event.
