Several injured by crackers in city, none serious

Several injuries were reported in the city while bursting fire crackers on the occasion of Diwali yesterday. However, none of the injuries were of serious nature.

According to information, 32 such injuries were reported at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). One of the injured was admitted to the hospital. Another person took leave against medical advice (LAMA) after he was admitted to the hospital.

More than six of the injured had eye injuries due to fire crackers, but none of them was serious.

The CMCH authorities said as many as 22 of the injuries were reported till midnight yesterday, while 10 more patients sought treatment during the day today for injuries they sustained yesterday.

Twenty six patients sought treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) due to fire crackers injuries. Most of these were burn injuries on hands. Three patients, who sustained burn injuries, as their clothes caught fire were admitted to the DMCH, according to the hospital authorities. None of the cases, however, were of serious nature.

Only two patients, however, reported injuries at the Civil Hospital yesterday, who were discharged after treatment.

Dr Ramesh Mansura, an eye-specialist said there were seven cases of eye injuries, since yesterday. Six of them were due to fire crackers, while one patient had got injured as Rangoli colours got into the eye.

None of the cases were ‘sight-threatening’ Dr Mansura said while adding that, “However, a firecracker injury of a patient around three days ago is sight-threatening. The patient is undergoing treatment.”
