A five-day hands-on practice session in the form of short term course (STC) commenced at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. This quality improvement programme (QIP) STC titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data and HPC Aligned Applications - A Modern Approach of Computing” was inaugurated in consultancy seminar hall. Dr Sukhwinder Singh, director, Computer Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the chief guest and a keynote speaker. Dr Sukhwinder pointed out various innovative ideas implemented at industry and government level related tp AI and high performance computing. Ramandeep Singh Suri, who was the guest of honour, elaborated role of social media and cloud computing. Suri shared his experience and motivated the audience. Dr Kuldeep Kumar from Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, discussed topics titled “Practical approach to research methodologies and Industry-academic research trends in computing”. He demonstrated the contents by sharing live examples. Dr Kiran Jyoti, HoD, and faculty coordinator shared her views on social network analysis and big data deluge.

NSS cadets hold cleanliness drive

NSS cadets of Shree Atam Vallabh Jain College were in high spirits as their camp entered seventh day. Students learnt yoga asanas for healthy living. Himanshi briefed students on road safety and discussed various measures to avoid accidents. She also emphasised on road side symbols and their importance. In the end, she remarked that life is precious and with proper road driving we can save many lives. Volunteers also participated in cleanliness drive and took a pledge to clean the college campus. Usha Chopra, instructor, Red Cross Society, held discussion on giving first aid to accident victim. Chopra said every individual should have a basic understanding of the first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. CPR is a technique involving heart and lungs that is used when a person stops breathing. Administering a CPR can restore breathing and restart heart beat. Chopra added that this valuable technique should be applied in case of an emergency. NSS volunteers visited Mother Teresa Old Age Home, Jalandhar bypass, to interact with senior citizens.
