SAI trainees secure bronze in handball

LUDHIANA: Trainees of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, Ludhiana, and those from its centre at Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur district gave a stupendous performance by securing bronze medal in the boys’ section during the Junior Punjab Handball Championship organised from September 8 to 10 at the Jathedar Santokh Singh Margind Sewa Society Sports Stadium, Dulay village, 15 km from here.

Trainees of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, Ludhiana, and those from its centre at Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur district gave a stupendous performance by securing bronze medal in the boys’ section during the Junior Punjab Handball Championship organised from September 8 to 10 at the Jathedar Santokh Singh Margind Sewa Society Sports Stadium, Dulay village, 15 km from here.

They were honoured at the local centre on Tuesday. Harbans Singh, in-charge of the centre, felicitated the trainees and coaches Inderjeet Singh and Kanta, who accompanied them at a function organised at the SAI centre complex.

The SAI team was fielded in this tournament and the boys finished at the victory podium. The contingent comprised 11 players from the Ludhiana centre and 5 from Mastuana.

The trainees include Navdeep, Jasbir, Monu, Parveen, Gurbanspal Singh, Abhishek, Vikas, Mandeep, Satinder and Sonu from Ludhiana, whereas Palakdeep Singh, Jattandeep Singh, Gurlal Singh, Khushpreet Singh and Harwinder Singh are from Mastuana Sahib.

Besides, two trainees of the STC, Ludhiana, namely Manjeet and Rohit represented Ludhiana district team in this championship, which emerged winners.

On the basis of their performance, five trainees — Manjeet, Rohit, Monu, Jasbir and Parveen — were selected to represent the Punjab handball team in the forthcoming Junior National Championship.
