‘Ensure safety of kids during transportation’

Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sahnewal, held a meeting with parents, school bus drivers and conductors today regarding the “Safe School Vahan Policy”.

The seminar was organised keeping in view safe transportation of school children. The meeting was chaired by Jasvir Singh, Head Constable, Incharge Traffic Education Cell, constable Gurpreet Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Traffic Police Gurmeet Singh and Himanshi Arora, safety riding co-ordinator.

School director William Sahota and Principal Crispin Maria welcomed the guests. Jasvir Singh informed parents and drivers regarding the “Safe School Vahan Policy” of the government.

Jasvir said parents should cross check that driver of their children school bus should have gone through general health check-up, eye check-up, psychological check-up, have valid licence, police verification certificate and training in first-aid, among others.

“When you hire a private transporter for your ward, it is your responsibility to make sure that your children are in safe hands,” he said. He requested parents to cooperate with school authority to take care of lives of innocent children by arranging decent transportation for them.

Himanshi stressed on increasing number of road accidents which occur due to rash driving. During the session, drivers were also apprised of the policy.
