The Rotary District 3090 would complete installation of around 100 hand -wash stations at government and private aided schools in the region under its campaign Wash in Schools (Wins).

The project is also a supplementary gesture to the Government of India’s “Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalya” campaign.

Assistant governor Avtar Krishan Sharma said volunteers led by district governor Dr Vishaw Bandhu Dixit has already installed group hand-wash stations at those schools where mid-day meal was running but adequate water supply was not available.

The number of schools covered under the project would go up by next week.

Amjad Ali said they launched a coordinated awareness movement to educate students and teachers about causes and consequences of improper hand wash. Target schools were identified on the basis of present facilities, he said.

Ali said experts identified that washing hands with soap before eating mid-day meal assists to breaks disease transmission routes and contributes to overall health.

“The successive governments have been doing a lot to provide nutritional diet to eligible students. However, the beneficiaries used to ingest bacteria, germs and pathogens due to lack of hand wash facilities,” said Ali.

Principal of Mahatama Gandhi Memorial National Senior Secondary School Viney Kumar said his school has received two hand wash stations, besides two water coolers from the Rotary Club.
