Promises galore

A recent announcement by the Ludhiana West legislator and Punjab Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, to provide top-class urban infrastructure to the city should be welcome, but only if it is converted into reality which looks like a distant dream going by the poor track record of the Municipal Corporation till now.

Ashu, who has been a three-time councillor and during his second term as legislator, he was fully aware of the frail financial health of the MC and the fund crisis in Punjab. The minister would do well to make only those promises, which he genuinely believes, could be fulfilled lest he would lose credibility and face in the public.

Message to upcoming bureaucrats

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) result brought cheers to the All India rank holders. While all upcoming bureaucrats profess the sole motive of serving the society at grassroots level, the execution narrative of these objectives pronounces the opposite. 'Corruption' takes over the principles of civil servants. The newcomers would do well to stick to the motive which inspired them to prepare for the civil services. The society needs bureaucrats who brings change -…a sea of change!.

They’ve every reason to remain ‘hot-headed’

If the police officials are to be believed then these three months- April, May and June remain the most erratic months in which cases of suicides, road-rage and unnecessary arguments have increased. The police official said in this extreme sultry weather, people become "hot-headed" and overreact in many situations, which otherwise can be handled calmly. "The egos are hit fast", said an official while adding that he was telling on a basis of past data available with the department. In other words, this means that one needs to be calm, composed and cool by adopting a positive approach!
