A factory supplying packaged drinking water was raided by the Health Department today on a tip-off and the licence of the owner was cancelled as he could not produce the certificate for the same.

District Health Officer Dr Andesh Kang said: “We got an information that a factory — Fresh Ways — supplying packaged drinking water, is packaging water without any proper certificate. Our team visited the factory and asked owner Gursharan Kumar to produce the certificate as per the Bureau of Indian Standards, which he failed to provide. Immediately, we destroyed 700 boxes of packaged water and collected the samples alongside. The report of the water collected thus is supposed to arrive in the next two weeks, after which legal action shall be taken against the owner if proved guilty. The factory cannot indulge in further production and has to close the work from today onwards.”

“More factories supplying packaged drinking water will be raided and samples will be collected. In the next 2-3 days, we will complete our process of raiding all factories, which supply packaged drinking water to check the standard of water being supplied by them to marriage palaces and at other places. These factory owners will not be allowed to take the public for ransom and have to comply with the fixed standards expected to be followed as far as the supply of packaged drinking water is concerned,” the DHO said.
