Ludhiana: The Court of Judicial Magistrate Devnoor Singh has declared Baldev Singh, a junior engineer of PWD, Ferozepur, as proclaimed offender in a cheque-bounce case. The orders came on a complaint moved by Jash Paul Sharma of Urban Estate, Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana. The accused had taken a friendly loan of Rs 1 lakh from him. In order to repay the amount, the accused issued a cheque for Rs 1 lakh with the assurance that the same would be encashed on its presentation. But the cheque was dishonoured by the banker of the accused with the remarks ‘Funds insufficient’. OC

Peddler held with 5-kg ganja

Ludhiana: The Focal Point police have nabbed a drug peddler and recovered 5 kg of ganja from his possession. He has been identified as Jatinder Kumar, a resident of Ishwar Colony. The Focal Point SHO, Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, said during routine patrolling near the Dhandari railway overbridge, the police got to know that Jatinder was on the way to deliver drugs to his clients. The police set up a naka and signalled Jatinder, who was on a scooter, to stop. A search of the scooter box yielded 5 kg of ganja. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him. TNS

Structures pulled down

Ludhiana: The Municipal Corporation on Tuesday dismantled around 12 illegal constructions on the national highway. Zone B ATP Mohan Singh said those buildings were constructed in violation of building bylaws on the highway between Basti Jodhewal Chowk and Samrala Chowk. The structures were constructed within five metres from the highway. A contempt petition regarding illegal structures on the highways is pending before the High Court. TNS
