Punjab karate team finish runners-up

LUDHIANA: Karate team from Punjab, who brought fame, finishing runners-up in the inaugural edition of the Open National Shorin Kempo Full Contact Karate Competition held at Gujrat, were recently honoured here today.

Karate team from Punjab, who brought fame, finishing runners-up in the inaugural edition of the Open National Shorin Kempo Full Contact Karate Competition held at Gujrat, were recently honoured here today. They were felicitated by the Ashihara Karate Federation of India (Punjab).

Punjab contingent, comprising 50 participants, took part in this competition and reaped a rich haul of 23 medals in which participants from Uttar Pradesh emerged champions. Hosts Gujrat secured third position.

The karate players from Punjab won eight gold medals, 10 silver and five bronze medals to take their tally to 23 and secured second position.

Mahima, Aastha Verma, Raju Maurya, Kavita, Akanksha Mishra and Aman were city-based players, whereas Laxman, Nihal, Palak, Paras, Adish, Anand, Om Mehta, Amar, Aayush, Jyoti, Balvinder, and Suraj Singh were from other parts of the state.

Pankaj Sahni, Suraj Singh, Ashok Rao, Sakshi Meena and Satwinder accompanied the team as officials.
