Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, Commissioner, Jalandhar Division B Purusartha, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal today said the state government would duly compensate people for losses due to floods. The MP, Divisional Commissioner, DC and SSP today reviewed the situation arisen due to floods caused by breach in the Sutlej river at four places.
While overseeing the situation in 11 villages on boat they said adequate steps would be taken to compensate people. They said roughly people in 31 villages of the Phillaur subdivision were affected as 11,400 acres were submerged in water thereby resulting in huge crop loss.
Every single penny of the loss would be compensated by the state government, they added. No stone would be left unturned for helping people in this hour of crisis, they said. They also announced initiation of steps for strengthening banks of the Sutlej river to prevent further losses to life and property.
Besides the Irrigation and Drainage Department help would also be taken from environmentalist Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal for plugging the breach of the Sutlej river, they added.
The work would be done on a war footing to ensure that the people were facilitated at the earliest, they said. The state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was with the people in this hour of crisis, they added. The Punjab Congress general secretary, Chaudhary Vikram Singh, ADC Jasbir Singh, SP Gurmeet Singh, DSPs Sarabjit Rai and Davinder Attri, SHO Sukha Singh and others also present on the occasion.
