Panjab University has decided to give a ‘golden chance’ to all students of professional, undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses in June 2019 examinations. The opportunity is for students who have exhausted all their chances but could not qualify their compartments or re-appear examinations.

Candidates will have to appear for the golden chance (annual system) examination as per the syllabus mentioned by the university. For the first year of UG courses, the syllabus shall be of 2013-14 session, for second year of 2014-15 session and for third year, the paper will be set according to the syllabus of 2015-16 session.

For the first year of PG courses, the syllabus of 2010-11 shall be followed and for second year that of 2011-12.

Senator and Syndicate Prof KK Sharma said the candidates desirous of appearing in June examinations would have to submit an examination form and the prescribed fee by May 10.

“The colleges should bring this to the notice of students and also display a copy of the notification on the notice board of the college for the information of students,” he added. “The examination fee for UG students will be Rs 5,000 per class annual system or per semester system examination and for PG students, it will be Rs 10,000 per semester examinations,” Sharma said.

Students with re-appear or compartment, have got a relief from the decision of the university. Many of them will now be able to complete their degrees or get promoted to the next class. “I got compartment in BA final year. I could not clear it in two chances given to the compartment candidates. But now with a golden chance, I shall again put in my best to become a graduate,” a student said. Another student said he could not clear his compartment because of the changed syllabus, but now, he would be in a better position to pass the exam.

Senate member Inderpal Singh Sidhu said, “This is the best a university can offer to candidates, who could not clear exams for some reason or the other. Even students who were medically unfit to appear in the annual examinations will get a chance. For many students, it is a dream come true, as they now have a fresh chance to prove their worth.”

The UG and PG candidates appearing under semester system can fill the examination form on websites ugexam.puchd.ac.in and pgexam.puchd.ac.in, respectively. Examination forms for those appearing under the annual system are available on the website as well as sale counter of the university.
