Protect user data at all costs: Experts

Gulzar Group of Institutes (GGI) organised a workshop on software security, protection and reverse engineering. Er Parminder Singh, managing director, High Flo Automation International Pvt Ltd was a key note speaker.

Singh said, “Reverse engineering is defined as the process of evaluating physical properties of an object to determine its structure, size, shape or utility. Using reverse engineering it is possible to reduce time of product development, tool or mold design and imitate existing machine part.”

The workshop also focused on protecting software from tampering and issue of piracy.

Gurkirat Singh, executive director, GGI said, “Programme protection and reverse engineering are two sides of the same coin. Malicious software needs to be analysed and must be tamed at the earliest.”

He said malicious reverse engineering allows illegal copying and subversion. There is a need for software security and protection due to the growing sensitivity of user data coupled with the ubiquitous nature of computing systems ranging from tiny embedded devices to powerful data centres.

He said, “Malware analysts and researchers use reverse engineering as a tool to understand behaviour of malware sample in order to detect, prevent or get rid of it.”
