Private pupils miss pol science exam

About a dozen of students of BA semester-VI, who were to appear for private exam of political science here at Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, were in shock after reaching at the college campus when they got to know that exam had been conducted on May 20.

After listening to the news, few cried and some were seen bamboozled as they did not know what to do next.

While talking to The Tribune, a student coming from near Jodhan village said their exam was to start at around 9 am. But when they reached the college campus, they were told that as per “revised date-sheet” sent by Panjab University, the particular exam of Political Science was already conducted on May 20.

While showing the copy of the date-sheet, which they got through the PU website, the students said that as per date-sheet announced on May 5, the exam was to be held today (May 23).

“When we entered the college, one of the teachers spoke rudely and asked us to go outside from campus. We were standing on road here without knowing what to do. We were told by the PU to appear here in this college for exam. They should have informed us about the change in the exam date. They claim to have put-up on the notice board, but how come all of us missed to read on notice board? Instead of telling us the solution, college authorities asked us to get out from college as they had to do nothing with private students”, alleged one of the worried students.

The students had come from far off places including Muradpura, Jodhan, Basti Jodhewal, Shimlapuri, Samrala Chowk etc. The students said if they apply for the “re-appear”, they will have to shell-out up to Rs 2000 (each) which was not justified.

Dr Mukti Gill, Principal Khalsa College for Women, however said when all other students took exam on May 20 how come just few left on that day? “We are nowhere in the picture as on May 1, when revised date was sent by the PU, we had put up on the notice board. They should have read the notice board. We do not have their telephone or contact numbers, how can we contact them? But we are still there to help them and the controller examination PU will be contacted and requested to provide another chance to students to sit in the exam, which they missed on May 20”, said Dr Gill.

She also added that these students had not gone through the revised date sheet perhaps there was confusion in their minds regarding date.
