A post-mortem of the woman’s body, which was exhumed by the police after her relatives claimed she was murdered by her husband, was conducted by a board of doctors today. The report suggests that she might have been murdered, as the cause of death is multiple organ failure.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, East, Davinder Chaudhary told The Tribune that the post-mortem examination was conducted by a board of doctors which confirmed that the woman had suffered head and other injuries due to which she had multiple organ failure.

The post-mortem examination was conducted by Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Dr Ramanpreet and Dr Monika.

“According to the doctors, multiple organ failure was caused by the injuries which might have been inflicted by the woman’s husband. After she died on the night of September 16, her husband buried her in the graveyard in the morning. After burying the woman, he fled to Bihar along with his five children, four girls and a boy,’ said the ACP.

A case under section 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the IPC has now been registered against the woman’s husband, Sehraj Ansari.

A team would be sent to Bihar to trace the accused.

The deceased woman has been identified as Saraja Khatoon. The police said the accused had switched his mobile off which further suggested that he had murdered his wife. On Wednesday, Mehtab, brother of the deceased, had approached the police and alleged that his sister had been murdered by her husband.

The police apprised the Deputy Commissioner of the matter who gave permission to exhume the body in the presence of a duty magistrate.

The accused had told his wife’s family that she had died of a fatal wound she suffered after falling over in the house.
