Police crack down on snatchers; 6 held

The city police claim to have arrested six persons, who were involved in various incidents of theft and snatching in various parts of the city. 

ADCP Surinder Lamba, while talking to the mediapersons, said the police at Division Number 5 police station arrested two persons — Rahul Kumar of Shimlapuri and Sonu Kumar of Haibowal, who fled with a suitcase from the bus stand here on August 10. 

As per complainant Nobal Gurm, a resident of Chandigarh, he took a bus for Chandigarh on August 10 and kept his purple-coloured suitcase, containing Rs 10,000, jewellery and clothes, in the bus. Within no time, the suitcase went missing and he filed a complaint with the Division Number 5 police.  The police finally arrested two accused and recovered a diamond set, a gold mangal sutra, suitcase and clothes from them.

In another case, the Division Number 5 police arrested Saajan Singh of Jawahar Nagar Camp here and recovered a motorcycle, Intex mobile phone, a Samsung phone and a Nokia phone from the accused. As per the police, four mobile phones were stolen from the house of one Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Street Number 4, Labour Colony, Jawahar Nagar Camp, today. The police arrested the accused and recovered the phones and a  motorcycle from him. Further investigation was on.

Further, the ADCP elaborated that one Satwinder Singh of UP, Arun Kumar and Murli of Kiran Vihar, behind Keys Hotel here, were arrested by the Thana Sadar police today. The police recovered approximately Rs 4.5 lakh from the three accused. As per the available information, a case was registered by a builder, Sachin Arora of Rajguru Nagar, on August 17. On August 11, around 10 pm, Arora was winding up his work at Ghuman Colony in Threeke village, where a building was being constructed. Arora kept Rs 15 lakh in a suitcase and left it in his tent-cum-office near the building and asked Arun Kumar to take care of the bag, while he was briefing other workers about the next day’s work. After 10 minutes, he found Arun missing with the bag. He lodged a complaint with Sadar thana police. The police arrested the accused today.
