Poetry, creative writing mark Int’l Mother Tongue Day

LUDHIANA: International Mother Tongue Day was celebrated at Punjabi Bhawan today. Students from different colleges participated in various competitions such as ‘akhaan’ and ‘muhavare’, poetry recitation and creative writing .

International Mother Tongue Day was celebrated at Punjabi Bhawan today. Students from different colleges participated in various competitions such as ‘akhaan’ and ‘muhavare’, poetry recitation and creative writing. These competitions were being held by Punjabi Sahit Akademi.

Both the students and the audience said the idioms and sayings of Punjabi made the conversation very rich, fluid, spontaneous.

It has been fantastic to learn ‘akhaan’ and muhavre, since I started participating in such competitions, Sukhpreet Kaur, a student said.

In the art competition, students of different colleges created art works on the theme of Punjabi poetry, embellishing poetic verses with calligraphy.

Karandeep Kaur, from the SDS College in Moga created a 3-D text with Gurbani verses, whereas Pooja from Master Tara Singh Memorial College made an artwork along with poetic verses by poet Surjit Patar.
