With the intent to seek peace, tranquility and prosperity in the region, pilgrims left for the Naina Devi shrine after participating in the shobha yatra held in the town.

Participants in the paidal yatra included office-bearers and activists of various social and religious organisations, irrespective of their affiliations and associations. The office-bearers and activists will spread awareness about female foeticide, drug abuse and communal hatred during the pilgrimage.

Flags and decorated vehicles equipped with music systems enhanced the enthusiasm and fervor of the event.

Led by Jatinder Sharma Happy, patron of the Sidh Sulakhan Sewa Dal; office-bearers and activists of the Shree Ram Mandir Committee, Har Har Mahadev, Bhartiya Mahavir Dal, Gandhi Chowk Welfare Committee and devotees carried red flags in their hands and the yatra received a rousing welcome at various places in the city.

Acknowledging warm response given by various organisations of the region, conveners of the yatra Jatinder Sharma Happy and councillor Deepak Sharma said a large number of enthusiasts had vowed to support the awareness movement launched against social evils, including drug abuse, gender bias, female foeticide and communal hatred.

“Best part of the movement was that members of various communities, including Muslims and Sikhs, not only welcomed us, they also joined the event,” said Jatinder Sharma Happy and Deepak Sharma.
