PAU scholar delivers lecture in China

LUDHIANA:Simranpreet Kaur, an MSc student of the Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), visited China Agricultural University (CAU) in Beijing from April 1 to April 10 for carrying out research work on rearing of fruit flies.

Simranpreet Kaur, an MSc student of the Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), visited China Agricultural University (CAU) in Beijing from April 1 to April 10 for carrying out research work on rearing of fruit flies. Kaur is pursuing her degree under the guidance of Dr Sandeep Singh, Assistant Entomologist, Department of Fruit Science.

During her stay in Beijing, she carried out research under the guidance of Dr Zhihong Li, Professor of Entomology and Director, CAU Plant Quarantine Laboratory and had discussions with Dr Lijun Liu, Dr Yujia Qin and Dr Jianlin Jiang on preparation of artificial diet, rearing of fruit flies on artificial diet, molecular identification, wing development and population genetic structure, RNA interference and CRISPR-Cas 9.

Prof Li is also a member of advisory committee of Simranpreet for her MSc degree. Simranpreet also delivered two lectures on various aspects of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of fruit flies in India.

Dr Pardeep K Chhuneja, Head, Department of Entomology, said exposure to international institutes helps the students to learn innovative techniques in IPM and act as a major boost for every research scholars. 

Kaur’s visit was jointly sponsored by Prof Li and Khush Foundation, PAU, Ludhiana.
