Ludhiana, June 16

Over a month has passed when two jail inmates had fled from the Ludhiana Central Jail. So far, the city police have failed to nab them.

Notably, on the night of May 13, two inmates had escaped from the jail premises. A case was also registered against the jail inmates at the Division No. 7 police station.

When asked why the accused were still not traceable, Additional DCP Rajvir Singh said, “Raids are being conducted by special police teams at suspected hideouts of the inmates, but police is yet to get any success.”

Besides conducting raids at Rattanpalon and Amloh, the native place of inmates, the police also went to Kurukshetra, where a sister of the inmates’ lived, he added.

Following the jail break case, four officials of the Central Jail, including Jail Superintendent Shamsher Boparai, Deputy Superintendent Manjit Tiwana, Assistant Superintendent Parwinder Singh and Head Warder Nishan Singh were suspended.

Later, Boparai was reinstated by the minister as he was on leave when the incident took place.
