One arrested with half kg opium

The Jagraon police have arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized 500 grams of opium from him.

The accused has been identified as Sukhchain Singh, a resident of Kaunke Kalan village near Jagraon.

The police have registered a case against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act at the Jagraon (City) police station and further investigation is under way.

As per information, the accused was arrested by a team of anti-narcotics cell of the Jagraon police from Jagraon-Kanuke Kalan link road following a tip off on Tuesday evening.

Giving details, anti-narcotics cell in-charge inspector Navdeep Singh said an informer had passed on information to the police that a suspected drug peddler had been spotted in Jagraon area.

Later on, the police produced the accused before a local court, which awarded two-day police remand of the accused.

According to the police, the accused had confessed to having being involved in the trade of drug peddling for a long time. — TNS
