Taking strict note of advertisements pasted on school walls, the Education Department has decided to lodge an FIR against offenders.

Taking strict note of advertisements pasted on walls of schools the secretary (Education) has decided to act tough against all those involved in the act.

He has shot a letter to all district education officers (DEOs) and school heads of the entire state asking them to identify schools defaced in violation of the Punjab Defacement and Violation Act in their respective districts and lodge an FIR with the police station concerned in this connection.

“Many advertisements are vulgar in nature and adversely affect the environment in educational institutions. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty as it is clearly violation of the Punjab Defacement and Violation Act,” he said.

Appreciating the step taken by the Education Department Gurcharan Singh, a retired government teacher, said, “The step taken is in the right direction and should be implemented in true spirit.”

“Generally, nobody checks so advertisers feel free to paste advertisements on school walls. With school heads getting letters from the secretary (Education), hopefully they will pay attention towards this issue. They will lodge an FIR against existing advertisements. They will also check further pasting of advertisements,” he added.
