Notorious drug smuggler held with 1.5-kg opium

The city police have arrested a notorious drug dealer, already facing charges under the Arms Act, NDPS Act and Excise Act, from near Hawaas bus stand on Main Rahon Road during a nakabandi on Sunday. During search, 1.5-kg opium was recovered from him and a white Skoda car (PB-10BF-3696) that was used by him for trafficking was also impounded.

ADCP City-4 Ajinder Singh during a press conference said a police party of Meharban police station led by SHO Kulwant Singh received a tip-off. The accused has been identified as Resham Singh, alias Bhangu, of Boothgarh village under PS Meharban.

He said a case under Sections 18/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the accused and he was produced in court. The ADCP claimed that Bhangu was a habitual offender with cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act and Excise Act registered against him during the period September 2013 to January 2019. In the previous cases, the police recovered one country made pistol, 2-kg opium and 135 cases of smuggled liquor. ACP East Devinder Kumar and SHO Meharban Kulwant Singh were also present at the occasion.

Four held for drug trade

The police have registered cases against five persons under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and four of them have been arrested.

The police have arrested one Sumit of New Harkrishna Colony from a park near Dholewal Chowk and recovered 50-gm heroin from him. The Shimlapuri police arrested two persons identified as Ravi Kumar of Shimpalpuri and Sukhjit Singh of Janta Nagar and recovered 4.9-gm heroin from them. The motorcycle (PB-10HC-4104) that the duo was riding was also impounded.

The police division no. 5 have booked an unidentified person after a bag containing 16-kg ganja (cannabis) was recovered from a bus of a private transport company (RJ-23PB-0571) operating on the Jaipur-Ludhiana route on Sunday. The abandoned bag was found by the conductor of the bus after all passengers alighted, which was handed over to the police.

In another case, the Moti Nagar police have arrested one Raghu Raj, resident of Saini Colony, Moti Nagar, who had set up a rehri (push cart) of tea and paranthas near Transport Nagar. He used to sell poppy husk as well. A total of 4-kg poppy husk was recovered from him.
