Nigerian held with 1.7-kg heroin

The police claimed to have arrested a Nigerian national and recovered 1.7 kg of heroin from his possession. The suspect was going to supply the contraband to students of Lovely Professional Univeristy, Jalandhar, but was arrested by the Khanna police. The suspect was identified as Ogbonaya Chukwedi Emmanuel, a Nigeria citizen, who was now residing in Delhi.

In a press conference here today the SSP, Khanna, Dhruv Dahiya, said a police party led by SHO (City-2), Khanna, Rajnish Kumar, and local narcotic cell official Labh Singh were checking vehicles and persons at a naka opposite Pristine Mall on the GT road (Alour). While checking, one person (a foreigner) was seen coming from the Gobindgarh side on foot through a slip road. After seeing the police party he tried to flee, but was stopped for checking by officials. During his search, the police party recovered 1 kg of 700 gm of heroin from his possession. The suspect revealed during questioning that he had brought the consignment of heroin from Abuchi Nigerian of Delhi and was going to supply it in Lovely Professional University.

A case under Sections 21, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered at police station (City-2) and the suspect was arrested. “Another suspect Abuchi Nigerian, now in Delhi, will be arrested soon,” claimed the SSP.

According to the preliminary investigation Emmanuel was staying in Delhi without a legal visa as he had come to Indian about five years ago. His visa had expired long tome ago, but the police was yet to recover his passport.

The suspect was presented in a court which sent him in two days police custody. The SP (I), Jasvir Singh, CIA in charge Baljinder Singh and other officials were present during the press conference.
