Opposing GLADA’s notice to Gurdwara Guru Ravidas Ji at Jamalpur Awana on Chandigarh Road, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come forward in support of the gurdwara management committee.

The members of Dalit community had earlier alleged that GLADA had sent a notice for demolition of the gurdwara.

Deputy Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha and AAP MLA from Jagraon Saravjit Kaur Manuke visited the gurdwara and met the management committee members on Saturday. She said GLADA had sent a notice to demolish the Gurdwara but they opposed it.

She said: “Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Harpal Singh Cheema has written to CM Captain Amarinder Singh against GLADA’s notice. He has demanded that the notice be quashed and requisite measures be taken to resolve the issue. Now, the Chief Minister has asked the authorities concerned to take immediate steps in this regard.”

Meanwhile, shopkeepers of Jamalpur Awana also submitted a memorandum to her. They said GLADA has sent notices to them as well. They said Harpal Singh Cheema should intervene to stop demolition drive. They said they are running the shops for the past 20-30 years. If GLADA demolishes the shops, the shopkeepers and their families will suffer as they don’t have any other source of income to meet daily needs, a shopkeeper said.
