Cricket trials get overwhelming response

The selection trials, conducted by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA), an affiliated body of the Punjab Cricket Association, here at GRD Academy on Hambran Road on Sunday, received an overwhelming response.

These trials were held to select the talented cricketers (boys 12 to 14 years) and women cricketers for the Ludhiana zone team comprising Ludhiana district and Moga district.

Vinod Chitkara, honorary general secretary, LDCA said around 170 aspirants attended the trials, The selection panel led by Love Ablish, a former Punjab Ranji and IPL speedster along with other members including Gagandeep Singh Toor, former international and IPL player, Arun Pass, former Punjab Ranji player and Dinesh Puri, former Punjab and inter-varsity player, watched these players during the trials.

The panel will finalise the list of selected players who will be enrolled with the regional coaching centre, run by the LDCA at the same venue. Four teams will be formed from these selected players who will take part in a cricket tournament for the Mahajan Trophy. These boys will be imparted coaching to prepare them for the future competitions.

Meanwhile, 52 girls including 15 from Moga district took part in the selection trials, held at the academy ground. These aspirants appeared for the selection of Ludhiana zone that will participate in the Inter-District Tournament for the Punjab Cricket Championship.

The selection body included Love Ablish and Gagandeep Singh besides Anuradha Sharma, former national cricketer and member of the Punjab selection committee and Ramanpreet Kaur, another former national player.

The lists of selected players will be announced on Monday. said Chitkara.
