Ludhiana, May 19

Women voters were seen in full enthusiasm to cast their vote for the Lok Sabha elections. There are 7,79,569 total number of women voters registered in Ludhiana East, West, South, North, Central, Atam Nagar, Gill, Dakha and Jagraon Assembly constituencies.

Sukhjit, who cast her vote in the Ludhiana West constituency, said for her, the government should work to uplift women.

“Women still think twice before stepping out at night. The government should make our country safe for women,” she said.

Meena Kasi from Nepal, who is living in India for the past 25 years and also has a vote here, said it had been years since she migrated and now it was her hometown.

“I have voted for the party I preferred, without any pressure from my family. My vote, my choice,” she said.

Gone are the days when women were dictated by their husbands or sons to vote in favour of a particular candidate, she added.

“We did have a lot of discussions regarding various political parties and candidates. I listened what everybody had to say but the final choice was mine,” she said.
