Ludhiana, May 9

The Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, has directed the Director of Department of Local Government to submit the report of action taken on a complaint against Ludhiana MC officials who have been posted in the home district for over three years and assigned poll duties.

In the orders, the Chief Electoral Officer has stated that the complainant had sent a copy of record that many officials have been working in the home district for over three years and allegations are proved. But, no action-taken report has been sent to the office of Chief Electoral Officer yet.

The Chief Electoral Officer says if the report is delayed, the Department of Local Government would be held responsible.

Earlier, information obtained under the RTI revealed that several officials of the Municipal Corporation have been working in the home district for over three years. A city-based RTI activist had filed a complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer in this regard.

The MC had provided a list under the RTI, according to which several officials have been working here for over three years or more. The complainant had demanded the transfer of these officials to ensure fair and independent polls. — TNS
