Ludhiana, April 17

Amidst the celebrations of Mahavir Jayanti on Wednesday, devotees have complained that despite complete ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food on this day, many restaurants openly served it.

The Tribune made random calls to many restaurants in city and inquired if non- vegetarian food would be served or packed, to which most of the them, barring two to three restaurants, replied they would do so.

One of the owners at a restaurant said most hotels and restaurants served non-vegetarian food because there was no check. “The authorities may check the shops on the side of the roads but restaurants are hardly under the radar. Even when found guilty, a deal is struck between the inspectors and restaurant owners”, said the owner.
