A college professor, who solemnised second marriage, is facing rape charge as his second wife has got a case registered against him at the Sadar police station. He raped the victim with connivance of his first wife as the couple was issueless and needed a child.

The suspect has been identified as Rana Yadwinder Singh, a resident of SBS Nagar, Dugri. He is professor at a college in Guru Har Sahai (Ferozepur).

The complainant, a resident of Ropar, told the police that she was a GNM nursing student at Durga College of Nursing. She alleged that the suspect worked as professor at a college in Ferozepur and had developed close relations with her.

“One day I went to Rana’s house where his wife was also present. Rana offered me tea following which I fell unconscious. When I regained consciousness, I found that I had been raped. The suspect then threatened me of dire consequences if I revealed anything to the police,” alleged the victim.

“Another day, I again went to his house and was raped by the suspect in the presence of his wife. Later, I turned pregnant and was forced to deliver a child. The suspect had also mentioned his first wife’s name as mother of the child in the birth certificate,” the victim added.

Later, the ADCP (3) conducted a probe into the case. He said the suspect had solemnised second marriage to have a child as the couple was childless. There was a huge difference between the age of victim and the suspect, he said. She was just 24 years old while the suspect was 45. The suspect had also dumped the victim after snatching child, and now she was living at her parent’s house in Ropar.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner, Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, has approved the inquiry report and ordered registration of case under Sections 417, 494, 120B, 376, IPC, and 3, SC/ST Act, 1989, against the suspect, who is yet to be arrested.
