Lecture dwells on rights of women

LUDHIANA: The Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a lecture on ‘Declaration of Rights of Woman’ in collaboration with the PAU Club “Litteraire Français.

The Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a lecture on ‘Declaration of Rights of Woman’ in collaboration with the PAU Club “Litteraire Français.”

Dr SS Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture, presided over the function which was attended by the students of French courses and faculty members.

Cecilia Antony, Chairperson of the Department of French and Francophone Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, spoke on the first declaration of Rights of Woman drafted during the French Revolution. It consisted of a preamble and 17 Articles, she added. Dr Antony explained that it was drafted by a woman revolutionary who was decapitated during the revolution for her revolutionary actions. The guest speaker took up each Article and drew a parallel with the present situation in India.

Dr Neena Chawla, Professor of Biochemistry, shared her personal experience of her visit to France.

Harpreet Kaur Bains, Assistant Professor of French, proposed the vote of thanks.

The students enthralled the audience with their musical performance.
