Stepping up vigil in view of the coming general elections, the police have recovered about Rs 62 lakh of hawala money in two cases.

Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said in the first incident, a police party recovered Rs 49.8 lakh at a naka near Pristine Mall on the GT Road. The car driver, identified as Manoj Kumar, and two more occupants, identified as Vishat Arora and Amar Singh, all residents of Delhi, were detained and later handed over to the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department (Investigation Wing) for further Investigation.

The SSP said in the other incident, the police recovered Rs 12.5 lakh from a car at the same naka. The car driver, identified as Gaurav, and another occupant, Ashu Goyal, both residents of UP, were detained.

The SSP said the suspects had brought money from Delhi and were going towards Ludhiana to deliver it to hawala operators.
