The government schools will observe National Sports Day on August 29 by holding marathon and hosting games. The day also marks the birthday of hockey legend Dhyan Chand, who won three gold medals for India.

The Director General School Education has directed schools to hold marathon early in the morning and conduct matches. Schools have been asked to make students familiar with traditional games as well. Similarly, primary schools will also hold games for students.

Moreover, two hockey teams will be selected in each district and a match will be held between them on August 29.
