If the medical examination of car driver Sanjiv Verma, alias Babbu, who died after crushing 7-year-old Arman to death yesterday on Tibba Road, is to be believed, no visible injury marks were found on the body.

However, the exact cause of death would be known only after the viscera report.

Board of doctors comprising Dr Gurmeet, Dr Ajit and Dr Seema conducted the postmortem of Babbu’s body at the Civil Hospital on Friday. They reportedly told the police that the body had no visible marks.

The family members of both deceased were present at the Civil Hospital on Friday. They did not raise any allegation or counter allegation on each other and said would pursue further legal proceedings only after the arrival of the postmortem report.

Was on his way to distribute daughter’s wedding cards

Deceased Babbu’s brother Vipan said yesterday his brother was on his way to distribute invitation cards of his daughter’s marriage, which was due in the coming two days when his car crushed the boy to death. “Unaware of the accident, I was calling on my brother’s phone, but he did not respond. However, some unidentified lady called back and told me that my brother was being lynched by the mob. I immediately reached the spot and found my brother lying dead in the car. I am not sure who thrashed my brother and also damaged the car,” he said.

On being told that the police claimed that Babbu was not beaten up, rather he died due to cardiac arrest, Vipan said: “Let the postmortem report come, everything will be cleared.”

Meanwhile, Arman’s father Navi Rasool, who is a tailor by profession, said he was not at the spot when his son died. “Both families reached the spot after the two died. We don’t know who thrashed him,” he said.

Rajvir Singh, ADCP IV, said in the preliminary probe of the police, Babbu seemed to have died due to heart attack after the accident. “We inquired from the residents of the area, who also said that the driver died immediately after the accident. Still we will proceed with our probe after receiving the autopsy report,” the ADCP said.

Meanwhile, residents who were blamed for lynching the car driver, also gathered at the spot and said they had not beaten up the driver. Rather he was already lying dead in the car, they said. However, they agreed that some of them had damaged the car to express anger after the accident.

Driver suffered cardiac arrest: Cop

A senior police official requesting anonymity said car driver Babbu reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest a few seconds before he crushed the boy to death. “Our probe suggests that Babbu suffered a heart attack seconds before he rammed the car into the four children — Arman (7), Ballu (5), Shahbaz (8) and Shabana (14). As a result, Arman died and the autopsy will clear the same,” he asserted.

Cops looking for woman who informed about ‘lynching’

The woman who reportedly called the police control room and deceased Babbu’s brother Vipan informing him about the alleged lynching, is being searched by the police. ADCP Rajvir said that when area residents denied any lynching and even preliminary medical report claimed no visible injury marks on Babbu’s body, then why did an unidentified woman pass on wrong information and spread the rumour.  “We are trying to identify that woman to ferret out the truth behind the incident,” the ADCP said.
