Ludhiana, November 12

Moga faced a little challenge from Amritsar (3-0) to lift the winners’ trophy in the boys’ section in the 13th Senior Punjab State Baseball Championship which concluded at Shahi Sports College, Samrala, on Monday.

Harpreet Singh, Inderjit and Harjit Singh scored one run each to fashion victory for Moga while their opponents failed to open the account and settled for the second spot.

Earlier, in the semi-finals, Amritsar defeated Fatehgarh Sahib 6-3 to qualify for finals — with Ajay and Sandeep playing the major role, accounting for two runs each — and Moga proved too good for hosts Ludhiana whom they beat 8-4 to join Amritsar in the summit clash. Inderjit and Harpreet contributed two runs each and helped Moga to clinch the title. In the hard-line cup match, Fatehgarh Sahib quelled a strong resistence from hosts Ludhiana before sneaking past with a narrow margin 8-7 to content with the third position. Vaninderjit Singh and Gurpreet Singh chipped in three runs each to steer their side to wrap up the cliff-hanger. — OC
