Ludhiana, May 24

The police claimed to have solved a three-day-old murder case with the arrest of two drug addicts. The accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Kaka, resident of Pwan, Sahnewal; and Jagdip Singh, alias Balli, resident of Dharod village, Ludhiana. Ranjit is a truck driver and Jagdip a daily wager.

Commissioner of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill, DCP Crime Gaganajit Singh, ACP RS Bhullar and CIA Inspector Rajesh Sharma conducted a press conference regarding the case on Thursday.

Gill said on the evening of May 21, Abhishek Mishra, a native of UP, who resided at Hero Colony, along with his brother Ravi Mishra, was walking on the Jaspal Bangar road. They were cornered by two bike-borne armed youths. They tried to snatch a mobile phone from the victim. When the victim resisted their attempt, one of the assailants hit Ravi on the head with an edged weapon. He died on the spot.

The CP said: “Our team conducted a thorough probe into the case. Footage of several CCTV cameras was scanned. Images recovered from the footage were shown to the local residents which helped the police in getting a clue and finally solving the case in such a short span of time.”

The DCP Crime, Gaganajit Singh, said on May 21, the accused first snatched a mobile phone from a migrant labourer and sold it off to buy drugs. After doing drugs the same evening, they started looking for a fresh target. While they were snatching a phone from Ravi, one of them inflicted a fatal injury on Ravi’s head. The drug peddler who sold drugs to the accused has also been nabbed with 30 grams of heroin. He has been identified as Hardeep Singh of Dhandri village.
