The police claimed to have solved the murder of a migrant with the arrest of his wife and her paramour. Their accomplice is still at large. Those arrested have been identified as deceased Sandeep’s wife Rinki and her paramour Pawanpal. Depu Chaudhry, a cousin of Rinki, is at large.

Khanna SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said a body was found near Mehandipur village with marks of beating on the neck and head. Vishal Sharma, a relative of the deceased, told the police that Sandeep had returned home on the two-wheeler of his employer, Manjit Singh, after finishing work at his transport company at Khanna. Later, his body was found near Mehandipur village kept in a cotton bag. The two-wheeler was parked nearby.

The SSP said Sandeep and his wife belonged to UP. They were residing at a house in Narotam Nagar, Khanna. A special team, comprising DSP (I), Khanna, Ranjit Singh, CIA Inspector Baljinder Singh and Sadar SHO Venod Kumar, started investigation into the case. A slip was found on the two-wheeler that led the police to a commission agent. Following leads, the police reached the deceased’s wife, who tried to mislead the police. But after questioning her for five or six hours, the police got to know the truth behind this murder.

Rinki told the police that she was having illicit relations with Pawanpal of UP who lived in Jagraon. He, along with a relative of Rinki, killed Sandeep.

The SSP said the three accused cleverly made Sandeep consume some tablets on the night of May 19. When he became semi-unconscious, they strangled him with his belt and also hit him on his head till he died. They put him in a bag and planned to threw the body into the canal near Doraha. When the two reached near Biza on the two-wheeler, they saw vehicles coming. They left the bag and the two-wheeler there and fled the scene.

The SSP said it was the 13th murder case cracked by the police in one year.
