The police division 5 police booked a member of a local NGO for raping a married woman. The accused has been identified as Dheeraj Batra, a resident of Jassian road, Rising Star School. His mother Rama Batra and brother Rohit Batra have also been booked by the police for issuing life threats to the woman.

The complainant told the police that for the past 11 years, she had been living separately from her husband due to some dispute.

Recently, she started working with the NGO Ray Of Positivity, which distributes free food outside DMC and Civil Hospital, where she befriended Dheeraj who also assured to solemnise marriage with her. On February 1, he took her to theatre to watch film where he booked the extreme rear seat where he raped her. Accused had initially served her water laced with some sedatives and after having the same she turned partial conscious. Later, when the film ended, he apologised to her but refused to marry her. The accused is yet to be arrested. — TNS
