MC demolishes 14 illegal constructions in city

LUDHIANA: Following a complaint, the Municipal Corporation took action against illegal constructions on Gill Road, Jaspal Bangar and Lohara in Zone C on Thursday. Assistant Town Planner Kuljeet Singh Mangat said they demolished 14 illegal constructions. Mangat claimed that some property owners opposed the MC team but still they went ahead with demolition. Earlier, Council of RTI Activists chief Rohit Sabharwal had filed a complaint against the ATP for not taking action against these buildings. TNS 

15-yr jail for possessing drugs

Ludhiana: Additional Sessions Judge Sonia Kinra has convicted Naresh Kumar of Janakupuri on the charges of possessing intoxicating drugs. He was ordered to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 15 years. A fine of Rs 1.5 lakh was imposed on him. A case against him was registered at the Division No. 6 police station on May 16, 2016, under the NDPS Act. According to the prosecution, at a naka near Cheema Chowk, the accused tried to turn back on seeing the police party. He was caught and searched. As many as 1,200 (lomotil) tablets were recovered from his possession. OC 

Three booked for misbehaving with traffic policeman

Ludhiana: The city police have registered a case against three youth for misbehaving with a traffic policeman on duty. Those booked were identified as Deepak Kumar of Sarmla Chowk, Sahil Ali of Sanjay Gandhi Colony and Jatinder Kumar of Indira Puri. ASI Ravinder Kumar said he along with a police party had laid a naka at Basti Jodhewal where the three bike-borne accused were stopped for checking. When he asked them to produce documents the youth misbehaved with him and tried to tear his uniform. Deepak was arrested while the other two managed to escape. TNS

One held with 300-gm opium

Ludhiana: The city police have nabbed a peddler and recovered 300 gram of opium from his possession. The accused was identified as Beant Singh of Jammu Colony. The police said the accused was stopped for checking on suspicion at the Atam Public School T-Point naka. During search of his belongings opium was recovered. TNS
