Accusing a parking contractor of violating the conditions of the agreement, the Council of RTI Activists has sent a complaint to the Principal Secretary, Department of Local Government.

Despite repeated complaints, the MC has failed to stop fleecing of visitors at the parking lots on Ferozepur Road.

Rohit Sabharwal, president of Council of RTI Activists, has alleged that the terms and conditions of the agreement signed by the contractor and the MC for the parking site on Ferozepur Road (Jagraon Bridge to Sidhwan Canal) are being violated. He said: “The parking staff demanded fee more than the prescribed parking rate from me. I obtained a copy of the agreement. Now, I have come to know that various conditions of the agreement are being violated.”

“As per the agreement, it is mandatory that the contractor will charge the prescribed parking fee on an hourly basis. However, the contractor’s staff are overcharging visitors,” said Sabharwal.

“According to the agreement with the civic body, the contractor is to ensure issuing of e-tickets at the lot. Besides, it is mandatory for the staff to wear uniform and wear identity cards. But it was witnessed that all these clauses are being violated by the contractor,” he has stated in the complaint.

Sabharwal said: “The contractor’s licence should be cancelled and his security money forfeited as complaints of overcharging visitors are very common at the lot.”

Meanwhile, the parking staff working under the contractor denied the allegations of fleecing visitors. The contractor could not be contracted for comment.

The Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner, Satwant Singh, said:

“I will look into the matter. If any violation is found in the parking lot then we will take the necessary action.”
