Ludhiana, October 14

Kin of a martyr have been alleging police inaction in a case regarding the widening of the road near their house.

The complainants met the Deputy Inspector General (Ludhiana range) yesterday who marked an inquiry to the Dakha DSP.

Victim Pawandeep Kaur of Dhatt village in Mullahpur said she belonged to the family of martyr Sukhdev Singh who fought the 1962 battle. She said in 2009, MLA Manpreet Singh Iyali came to her house to pay tribute to the martyr and ordered the widening of road leading to her house. After the road was widened, the then village Sarpanch — belonging to Akali party — converted the road from eight feet to four feet to show his clout. “When we attempted to get the road widened, the former sarpanch and his aides thrashed me. Then I submitted a complaint to the Dakha police, but no action has been taken till date,”said victim Pawandeep Kaur alleged.

Dakha DSP Jaswinder Singh did not respond to the phone calls.—TNS
